Candle Care 101
Tips to get the best out of your Sensory Philosophy Candle
We recommend you always trim your wick to about 5mm. If the wick is too long, the flame will be longer and burn through the wax more quickly. Also, the wick may start to ‘smoke’, and no-one wants a black stain on their candle jar, or wall! (Note - if this does happen, try gently wiping the mark with some damp cotton wool)
By trimming the wick, you also get the absolute best out of the fragrance. If the wick becomes too long, the burnt end (which can look a bit mushroom-y) risks dropping into the pool of wax, and this can create an unpleasant odour.
When burning your candle, try to do so in a well-ventilated room, free from draughts as these may cause the flame to flicker and the candle to burn faster.
The candle lid doubles up as a handy coaster to protect your surfaces. Extinguish your candle when there’s approximately 10mm of wax left, to reduce the risk of the jar overheating.
We recommend burning your candle for a minimum of 2 hours. This is to help prevent a build-up of wax on the jar edge (known as ‘tunnelling’). We also suggest you burn your candle for no more than 4 hours, to prevent the wick growing too long (see above!)
Replace the lid on your candle after it has been extinguished and cooled. This will prevent any dust from settling on the wax, potentially causing an unpleasant smell when you next come to burn it.
Keep away from direct sunlight, as this will help keep the soy wax in tip top condition.
